Getting back to doing reviews of vegan recipes, products, and local restaurants, I decided to try Sage Vegan that’s located pretty close to me in the great city of Pasadena. You know about Pasadena, right? Home of the Rose Bowl, the Granddaddy of Them All, Rose Bowl Parade, and all sorts of goodness.
Even though Sage wasn’t that far from me, it took me forever to find it! It’s located in a little nook between blocks. In other words, GPS ain’t gon’ help you unless you get out of your car and walk.
Once I arrived, I was greeted and seated very quickly. I pursued the menu and honestly, everything looked delicious:
They also had a pretty respectable drink selection, too:
Since it was the middle of the day, I opted not to drink so I chose a rather interest $8 Strawberry Lemonade. Yes, you read that right – I paid $8 for a strawberry lemonade and I’m trying to figure out why.
At least my water came in a spiffy looking bottle:
So, I ordered a small appetizer and I chose the tempeh avocado burger. First, the Brussels sprouts with the fake cheese:
The sprouts were rather plain. No pepper, no sea salt. I guess that was intentional so people could just dip them into the nut sauce. The sauce was great but the sprouts could’ve used more seasoning. The sauce was supposed to be spicy (maybe white people spicy, idk) but it wasn’t spicy at all.
My tempeh avocado burger was pretty good. The fries were good too, though, they stuck together.
I know it doesn’t seem like it’s that appealing, but trust, fam…it was hella good.
Overall, it was great service and great food. I’m not entirely sure if it’s something I would have often because fam…look at my bill:
Maybe next time, I’ll just get the burger instead and definitely not the lemonade because I’m still trying to figure out how in the hell a strawberry lemonade costs that damn much.
Overall, it was a great restaurant and I do recommend it if you’re in the Pasadena area and want some vegan and plant-based food. Just be prepared to shell out some dough.
